Corpus Christi - St. Mary's Navan - June 2009

On Sunday last, The Feast of Corpus Christi, St. Mary's Parish celebrated 20 years of Perpetual Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament. To mark the anniversary, a large number of parishoners, including many regular adorers, came to St. Mary's for a Holy Hour followed by Mass celebrated by Bishop Smith. In his homily, Fr. Joe Clavin, P.P Dunshaughlin spoke of the enthusiasm of so many people in Navan who generously responded to the request for adorers when Adoration of the Blessed was first established . He also recalled the advice given to priests at Maynooth by the Late Pope John Paul II on the occasion of his visit to Ireland in 1979. In his address, the Pope urged priests never to become so busy doing the work of the Lord that the Lord of the work is forgotten. The weekly hour, Fr. Clavin told the congregation, ensures that the Lord of the work is never forgotten.

Later in the Mass, Bishop Smith launched the Year for prayer for Priests, requested by Pope Benedict, by blessing prayer cards which are currently being distributed to every parish of the Diocese of Meath.

Our sincere thanks to all who helped in making this occasion so memorable. Our thanks especially to all who through their generous commitment have ensured that Perpetual Adoration has continued uninterrupted in our Parish for 20 years.
