Over the past few months, two groups from the Parish travelled on pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Led by the Navan parish clergy its was a deeply moving experience for us to follow in the footsteps of Christ on his native soil. |
Our first glimpse of the Holy City of Jerusalem was through tired and weary eyes at the end of a long night's journey.
But despite all the tiredness the excitement we all felt watching the sun rise over Jerusalem that morning was palpable. |
|
The following days were spent visiting all the sights of Jerusalem. This truly is a strange and fascinating city where Christians, Jews and Muslims all worship the One God according to their own unique tradition. |
|
|
The high point of each day for everyone was the celebration of the Eucharist at all the sacred sites: |
|
|
◊ The Holy Sepulchure
◊ The Church of the Visitation
◊ The Church of the Nativity at Bethlehem
◊ Qumran in the Judean Desert
◊ The Church of the Annunciation
◊ Nazareth
◊ The Church of the Primacy of Peter on the shores of Lake Galilee
◊ The Church of the Transfiguration on Mount Tabor

Both pilgrimages were a truly blessed time for us to grow in our understanding of the Gospels. |

|
Thanks to Sr. Consilio Rock and her valuable insights into the Word of God, the Scriptures came alive for us during those days.
In the words of the disciples on the road to Emmaus, we too can say "Did not our hearts burn within us as Christ talked to us on the road, explained the Scriptures to us and broke the bread" (Lk. 24) |
