Child Protection

Child Protection 2009

Child Protection: Over the last number of years, considerable efforts have been made in the Meath Diocese to implement the highest possible standards of Child Protection for all young people involved in parish activities. This work has been ongoing and in continuous collaboration with the Health Service Executive. Over the last two years the diocese has sponsored two lay people to complete intensive HSE training so that they are qualified and certified to present Keeping Safe training throughout the diocese for the Child Protection Representatives of each parish.

At this stage a number of lay people from every parish in the diocese have completed Keeping Safe training in order to act as Child Protection Representatives for their parishes. Almost all clergy have also completed this training. A revised version of the Diocesan Child Protection Policy is currently in preparation in close collaboration with the Health Service Executive. It will shortly be submitted for approval by the National Board for Safeguarding Children. When it is in place, an information and training evening will take place in the Navan Deanery for those involved in children’s ministry, priests and sacristans. In Navan Parish we are also updating consent forms for young people involved in parish activities and introducing ‘signing in’ procedures for all who use sacristies when children are present.

Please note our Parish Child Protection Statement on our Church notice boards.
