Cemetery Devotions 2017

Recently renovated Calvary scene and grave of Luke Smyth (who donated St Mary’s cemetery to the parish).

This year’s Cemetery Devotions will be held according to the following schedule:

Cannistown – Friday 23 June 7:30pm
St Finian’s Cemetery – Wednesday 28 June at 7:30pm.
Our Lady’s Hospital – Sunday 2 July after 9:00am Mass.
St Mary’s – Sunday 2 July at 3:00pm
Please note that St Mary’s cemetery will be closed to vehicular traffic on Saturday 1 July and on Sunday 2 July.
Donaghmore – Tuesday 4 July 7:30pm
Old Athlumney – Wednesday 5 July 7:30pm
Dunmore – Thursday 6 July 7:30pm

Let us pray.
Almighty God,
through the death of your Son on the cross
you destroyed our death;
through His rest in the tomb
you hallowed the graves of all who believe in you;
and through His rising again
you restored us to eternal life.
God of the living and the dead
accept our prayers for those who have died in Christ
and are buried with Him in the hope of rising again.
Since they were true to your name on earth,
let them praise you for ever in the joy of Heaven.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

It is encouraging to see how many parishioners maintain the local cemeteries and provide continual attention to their family graves throughout the year.

Thanks to Orla Roche for sending on this pic of St Mary's yesterday, with a rainbow in the background. The Rainbow is mentioned in the Bible as a sign of God's promise! "I set my rainbow in the clouds, and it shall be a sign of the Covenant between me and the earth!" Genesis 9:13.

It's like a beautiful connection between heaven and earth 🌈, and this connection is fully realised in Jesus, who came to be the bridge between heaven and earth and so when we celebrate the Mass🍞🍷🕍, our connection with God in heaven is renewed, strengthened and made ever more real for us! Amen! ... See MoreSee Less
